Exciting day, I just got extensions!!!
{below} Me, just now, with my new {tape-in weft} extensions! My natural hair in just below collar bone length, and I promise I'm wearing a maxi dress :)
So appropriately I will post about all the different options out there...
Temporary:
Jessica Simpson Hairdo clip in extensions: I used to wear these when my hair was barely bob-length, but since I had some length in the front I felt like it blended, I usually did a little side pony-tail action so I could spray my hair down so they are less obvious. These are super easy, a little practice and anyone could do it. But they are synthetic (they do make human hair but I never felt like spending extra) so they are super shiny and you can not curl these
*a couple pictures of myself with these clipped in, both times my hair was about bob length, definitely above my shoulders
Hair Pieces: I used to wear these quite a bit as well, I usually would just get cheap ones that are made to put around a ponytail and then but them in a bun, that way when my hair was dirty and I was too lazy to wash and style it, I could braid it back, or put it in a baby stump of a ponytail and pretend I had enough hair to make a nice, full bun out of it
*a shot of my fake-bun, and it was Halloween, so it's extra slicked back and covered with metallic glitter spray {I was a robot} not the cleanest bun in the world -by far- but it gives you an idea.
Clip-in Extensions: totally the way to go for temporary length and fun, your hair does need to be about shoulder length for them to blend well, but they look great. Not difficult to put in, there are tons of YouTube videos to teach you how. I would suggest going to Sally's Beauty Supply and getting human hair so you can curl it and whatnot, or better yet ask your stylist. I know at the salon I work at we can order an amazing quality that matches perfectly, and it doesn't cost much more than going to a beauty supply.
*an example of what would come in a package of clip-in extensions, small and larger wefts of hair with the clips already attached
*a bride, I colored the extensions to match perfectly. Her hair was just at shoulder length. And she looks beautiful!!
Permanent
Tape-in Wefts: I think these are amazing, they look so amazing and they are {in my opinion} the least noticable. They are in wefts, almost like clip-ins, so there aren't strings of hair hanging down. They are flat to your head and I just think they are beautiful. {This is what I just had done, and they feel great, and look better!} These last 6-8 weeks depending on how well you take care of them and how fast your hair grows. You can usually re-use these as well. Your stylist can take them out, clean them up, add new tape and put them back in which saves on the expense, and they are super quick to put in. They took another stylist 35 minutes to put them in my hair... about an hour and a half total with shampoo, blow dry, application, and cutting.
*Lauren Conrad getting her clip-in extensions put in, and I don't need to post a picture, we all know her hair is amazing.
**my picture at the top is with the tape-ins!
Fusion or Bonded Extensions: Probably the most well known, and what people think of when they think extensions. I'm not a huge fan, they make me think of Britney Spears and horrible chunks of hair. They also take FOREVER to put in. They do last a long time if you take care of them, not my personal favorite, but people love them. I have had them in before -not a full head- and for me, they were a little uncomfortable.
*freshly put into someone's hair {this was not done by me}
And of course: The Bad
*how not to do tape-in wefts
*how not to do bonded extensions
So, have you ever experimented with extensions? What kind have you used? How did you like them?
